Finasteride (Proscar) is a medication used to treat the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or male pattern baldness. It works by blocking the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the body. DHT is a hormone that causes hair follicles to shrink, causing hair loss and eventually hair loss. Proscar is a popular choice among men who have BPH. Proscar is usually taken orally once daily. While finasteride is effective for some men, it can cause side effects such as decreased sex drive, erectile dysfunction, and decreased ejaculate volume. It's important to consult with a healthcare professional before starting finasteride treatment, especially if you have concerns about side effects.

Finasteride (Proscar) is a medication used to treat BPH or male pattern baldness. Proscar is a popular choice among men who have BPH or male pattern baldness.

How does Finasteride (Proscar) work?

Finasteride (Proscar) works by inhibiting the activity of an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase. This enzyme converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that can cause hair loss and also contribute to male pattern baldness. By blocking DHT, finasteride can slow down hair loss and promote hair regrowth.

How long does it take for Finasteride (Proscar) to work?

Finasteride (Proscar) can start to work within 30 minutes to 1 hour after ingestion. It may take several months for Finasteride to reach its full effects. It is important to note that finasteride should not be taken for more than one year. Additionally, finasteride is not approved by the FDA for use in the treatment of enlarged prostate. It is important to consult with a healthcare professional before starting finasteride treatment to discuss the risks and benefits of the treatment.

Are there any side effects of Finasteride (Proscar)?

Common side effects of Finasteride (Proscar) include decreased sex drive, erectile dysfunction, and ejaculation problems. However, it's important to note that these side effects are generally not serious and do not require medical attention. In some cases, it may be necessary to stop the medication or adjust the dosage.

How should I take Finasteride (Proscar)?

Finasteride (Proscar) should be taken exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Do not take more than one dose within a 24-hour period. Keep the medication out of reach of children and pets. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular schedule. If it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses at once.

Propecia has been approved by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treatment of male pattern baldness, and has been prescribed to millions of men in the U. Many of these patients have tried to lose their hair, even if their hair is still growing on their heads. It's not unusual for a person with male pattern baldness to experience problems such as these.

This article will review the FDA's findings on the efficacy of Propecia and discuss the risks of taking this medication. We'll also provide details on the potential side effects and cautions.

The drug works by blocking an enzyme called type 2 5-alpha reductase, which is responsible for converting testosterone into DHT (dihydrotestosterone), a hormone that contributes to hair loss. Propecia can be used for treating male pattern baldness in men, but it's important to note that the medication does not have the same side effects as oral medications that contain the same active ingredient.

The side effects of Propecia are similar to those experienced by other medications for male pattern hair loss, such as minoxidil and finasteride. These medications are known as hair loss medications because they inhibit the production of DHT. When used as directed, Propecia is taken once daily in the morning. The exact dosage and duration of the treatment can vary from person to person, and the effects can last for up to six months.

For most men, Propecia is a once-daily tablet. The usual dose of the medication is 1 mg per day. However, some men may experience some form of hair loss on their scalp. The FDA has not determined if the dosage of Propecia prescribed for use as directed is the same as that prescribed by your doctor.

Some people are concerned about the possible side effects of taking Propecia. While it is important to discuss the potential risks and benefits with your doctor, they will be more likely to do so if they think you may have a problem with your hair or scalp.

This article is available only with a paid subscription.

The FDA has long supported the use of Propecia in patients with male pattern hair loss. However, recent studies have not shown the effectiveness of this medication in treating hair loss.

The FDA has also not approved Propecia for use in women, and there are no data to suggest that women should use this medication.

In addition, the FDA has not determined whether Propecia can be used as a hair loss medication. As with all medications, it's important to talk to your doctor about your health history and the potential risks of taking this medication.

If you have any questions about the potential side effects and cautions associated with Propecia, please don't hesitate to reach out to a health care professional at 1-800-FDA-1088 if you have concerns or questions.

FDA-APPROVED FOR HAIR LOSS

Posted on May 13, 2020 at 12:00 AM

Hi everyone,

My husband is a female and has had male pattern baldness (MPB) for years. While we can't tell his exact age, I would say the standard age for male pattern baldness is between 18 and 41. He and his wife are both on Propecia and the two of them have tried to lose their hair, but they've been unsuccessful.

We've been taking the drug Propecia since we were two and we both started taking the medication. He's been losing his hair and we are seeing a significant amount of loss in our hair. He has started to notice some hair loss on his temples, crown and back of his head that is different from normal.

The only other treatment we have tried so far has been the medication Proscar. It has been shown to be very effective in treating MPB in men who are on a low dose. When we first started taking the medication, we were told that our hair would fall out because we were taking it for a long time, so that was the reason. After some time, however, we began seeing some hair loss, and we stopped taking Proscar.

After a few months of taking the medication, we noticed that we were losing more hair than usual.
